| | Silver register - Process for
registration of horses and ponies that have NOT already been DNA'd for Agouti,
red or Silver. (If you have already had your horse or pony tested for
these you just need to attach a copy of the results OR some other proof of
testing, to the application forms and proceed from step 5 below.)
If you are not sure whether or not you have a true
silver, contact the National Office either by phone or email and arrange to
submit some photos. We will have a look at them and advise
accordingly.
If, in the Registrar's opinion, your horse or pony is clearly
a silver, you may only need to have an Agouti test done to determine brown or
black. However, if we are unable to determine from external appearances,
you will need to have a Silver DNA test done. If you do need to have
DNA test/s done, you will need to
-
Download/print the DNA hair collection
form, complete and attach to Silver registration application.
-
Download/print the
DNA Kit, complete as per instructions, mark that
you require EITHER THE SILVER OR THE AGOUTI test done
(depending on what you have been advised by the Registrar) and
forward to the US lab as per the address on the form. Don't
forget to include payment. Please note that if
your horse or pony has single cream dilute parentage, we may require
you to have the Cream factor test done as well to determine whether or not
s/he is a composite cream / silver dilute ie a buckskin silver.
-
Download/print
the import permit from the lab and attach to the
bag containing the sample.
-
Fill
out a customs permit which is available from
the Post Office - just request one when you buy your Air Mail envelope to
post the samples in. BOTH
THE FORMS MENTIONED IN 3 & 4 ARE NOW REQUIRED FOR CUSTOMS PURPOSES BOTH
IN AUSTRALIA AND THE US. FAILURE TO INCLUDE THESE MEANS THAT SHOULD
THE ENVELOPE BE OPENED BY CUSTOMS IN EITHER COUNTRY, THE ENTIRE CONTENTS
WILL BE CONFISCATED.
-
The
lab will email you the results within 10 - 14 days of receiving the hair
samples. Check for the following result:
-
Either one or two upper case 'Z's (results of the
silver test). This means your horse or pony carries either one
or two copies of the silver mutation and is therefore a silver. (If your horse or
pony returns two 'N's then s/he does not carry the silver mutation and is therefore not eligible for silver registration)
-
If you also had the Agouti test done you will notice two 'a's or 'A's -
these indicate whether your
horse or pony is a true black or is bay / brown. We will use these
to determine whether your horse or pony is a Black Silver or a Brown Silver.
6. Forward the email to
the national office - we will confirm the results with you:
7. If we all agree that
your horse or pony is a silver, proceed with the following:
-
Foal recordings (all colts AND
all horses / ponies under 2 years of age with GREY, ROAN, APPALOOSA,
PALOUSE, UNKNOWN or UNPROVEN parentage must be foal recorded. All
others may be permanently registered from birth)
-
Download / print foal
recording application, complete and return to address listed on
form, making sure you clearly understand the regulations printed on
the front page and that ALL REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION is attached.
-
If you are not already a member of Dilutes
Australia, you will
also need to go to the Forms and Downloads page
and print / download the membership application form.
