ACCEPTABLE eye colours for Dilutes Australia registration:

·      The normal eye is dark brown with brown sclera, iris and pupils.  In some lights, the pupil can appear bluish but this is due to the reflective qualities of the retina and is normal.

·      Hazel & amber eyes - lighter version of the normal brown or dark eye.  Iris is light brown and the pupil is dark.  Foal eye is often blue or grey blue and darkens to amber with maturity.

·      Glass eye - off white or pale blue iris with a blue pupil.  Only acceptable on cremellos and perlinos.  Not to be confused with wall eyes.

UNACCEPTABLE eye colours for Dilutes Australia registration:

·      Wall eyes - off white or light blue iris with a normal dark brown pupil.  Overall effect is of pale blue, may also have small light blue patches floating in it.  Most commonly found in broken coloured horses but may also appear in solids where the white face marking extends over or near the eyes.  Also known as china eye.

·      Multi-coloured eye - flecked or speckled with two or more colours.  Found in some Welsh ponies which have patches of blue iridescence in an otherwise normal coloured eye.  These horses are not eligible for registration.

SKIN COLOUR

Palominos, buckskins, duns and non-double dilute NPP/NWP/NBP must have dark skin to be eligible for registration with Dilutes Australia.    Pink skin except under white markings is not permitted except on cremellos and perlinos.  Pink skinned dilutes (other than cremello / perlino) are generally the result of the champagne factor and are registered in the Champagne register.

BRANDING

Horses are required to be branded / identified in accordance with the state agricultural laws of the state in which the horse was bred.  The ONLY exceptions are horses which are ALREADY registered, when presented for registration with Dilutes Australia Ltd, with another breed society which accepts unbranded stock.  Proof of this registration MUST ACCOMPANY the Application paperwork.   If a horse is not registered elsewhere  prior to being presented for registration with Dilutes Australia Ltd,  IT MUST BE BRANDED, MICRO CHIPPED or LIP TATTOOED even if it will subsequently be registered elsewhere with a breed society which accepts unbranded stock.  To date, only 2  breed societies are known to the Federal Office to register unbranded stock -  Quarter Horses (AQHA) and Saddle-breds (AASBA).  MICROCHIPPING - identification certificate stating serial number of microchip and verification of horse must accompany paperwork.

HYPP - (Hyperkalemic Periodic Paralysis)

This is an inherited muscular disorder disease which is found in some descendants of the American Quarter Horse stallion IMPRESSIVE.  Any horse presented for foal recording or adult registration that the Association has reason to believe could be a carrier of the HYPP gene will be required to pass a negative DNA test or show a negative DNA test result before they can be registered with the Association and any horse presented for foal recording or adult registration which tests positive for HYPP will not be eligible for registration under any circumstances, regardless of excellence of conformation and colour.

Studbooks NOT RECOGNISED by the company:

·
Any broken coloured breed society - Paint, Pinto, Appaloosa, Palouse, Spotted etc.
·
Any draft breed society - Clydesdale, Percheron etc.
·
For the purposes of NPP, NWP & NBP registration, no other dilute registration (ie no other palomino, cremello/perlino or buckskin/dun registration).

·      Dilutes Australia Ltd does not dilute register any horse or pony  which is broken coloured.  These horses and ponies may be registered in the company's Broken Coloured Dilutes SHOWING ONLY register.

·      Broken colour is an overriding factor.  Horses/ponies registered in any of the above studbooks or registers and which are broken coloured are not acceptable as registered parents for the purposes of STUDBOOK registration with Dilutes Australia.

·      Dilutes Australia Ltd will register the solid palomino, white, buckskin or dun progeny of broken coloured horses (registered or unregistered) into the NON-STUDBOOK Registers.

·      Dilutes Australia will register as NPP, NBP or NWP the SOLID non-palomino, non-buckskin/dun  and non-white progeny of a broken coloured parent and a UPWBDA STUDBOOK registered mare or stallion.

You only need to apply for your own BRAND AND STUD PREFIX if you wish to:  (see forms page to download application)

·      register a horse you have bred yourself

OR

·      register an unbranded, unnamed horse.

If you register a horse which carries someone else's stud prefix and brand, you do not need to register your own brand and prefix in order to register that horse.  However, you will need to register your own brand and prefix before you can register any foals from or by that horse or before you can register any foals you breed.

Horses already registered with other associations must be registered with Dilutes Australia with the same name.  If a horse registered with Dilutes Australia is subsequently registered elsewhere with a different name because the name was not available with other associations, consideration MAY BE given to changing the name with Dilutes Australia.   Consideration however will not be given when a horse is subsequently registered elsewhere with a different name merely because the owner didn't want to use the same name or a successive owner wanted to change the name with another breed.
